The New Year and The Two Ends of The Wellness Spectrum

It’s Wednesday, so let’s talk wellness. Total wellness doesn’t merely encompass your physical state of being. It also includes your mental, emotional and spiritual states as well. The holidays have passed. We’ve started a new year. How are you feeling? Are you joyous with the idea of a new beginning, or are you dreadful as you look back at all you left unaccomplished in 2016? Those are two distinct ends of a spectrum that many people are dealing with right now.

If you are feeling joyous and renewed, that’s a great place to be. Tunnel that energy toward reaching your goals. Make it the approach you take in your growth as a Christian, in your career, your family life and your fitness journey. It’s that type of energy that catapults you toward success. Hone it in, and make your dreams and visions a reality in 2017.

If you’re at the other end of the spectrum, you are not alone. Our thoughts and memories have a way of showing us what we left unfinished in bright and vivid detail. And once those thoughts enter our psyche, it’s hard to shut them off. I’m no psychologist, but I’ve lived long enough to know this experience.

Keep this scripture in mind at all times…

“I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun. Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”  ~Isaiah 43:19

While thoughts of negativity may be impacting how you are feeling at the start of this new year, remember that you serve a God who is always working. He is always working on something new for you. You may not see it now, but stay positive. Continue to work on those unaccomplished goals. Rebuild your confidence in yourself. As you do this, your outlook will change and your overall state of being will flourish. Enjoy the process, as you won’t complete your journey overnight. Embrace the challenges and celebrate your successes. That’s what life is about!
