If you’re like most people, you will find yourself surrounded by food for the next month and a half. It’s just that time of the year. No holiday celebration is complete without a nice spread of sometimes very unhealthy food, right? Don’t let that set you into panic mode. You can enjoy the Thanksgiving and Christmas festivities without dreading what the scale will read come January 1. It just takes some self control. And one key component of leading a healthy lifestyle emotionally, physically and spiritually, is self control. It has to become a part of who you are. Plain and simple.
Can you indulge here and there? Of course. No one expects perfection. But can you indulge every time something tempting comes along? No. This is where that self control comes into play. Somewhere in the back of your mind you have to remember your goals. Constant slip ups will push you further and further away from those goals.
One of the best ways to keep yourself in check is to keep an accurate food log. Whether it’s on your phone or in a notebook, write down everything you eat and drink. You can catch yourself before you go too far down a hole or give yourself a pat on the back where it’s due.
Enjoy this holiday season with control, and January will feel a whole lot better!
