There is nothing wrong with having struggles when it comes to maintaining a healthy eating lifestyle. If you’re struggling, that means you’re trying, and that’s a step in the right direction! What’s important is that you continue to progress. I came up with a few tips to help you stay on track toward reaching your goals and leading a healthier lifestyle.
1. Pack your snacks
I can’t emphasize this enough. If you pack your snacks for the day, you greatly decrease your chances of going astray. Of course, just when you think you’re in the clear someone in the office will bring in a box of cookies. This is your test. Grab the healthy snack you packed, and keep it moving!
2. Eat breakfast
There are so many people who wake up, rush out the door, and don’t eat anything until late morning or even lunch. This is a set up. Even though you think you might save on calories by skipping a meal, that generally doesn’t happen. What does happen is you compensate for your excessive hunger by eating more calories as the day progresses. And if you pack all of those calories into two giant meals, you’re not giving your body a chance to get into fat burning mode. Eat your breakfast every day, and spread your caloric intake throughout the day.
3. Grab water
Instead of reaching for a sugary soda or latte, have water on hand at all times. There is absolutely no reason to waste precious calories on a drink that offers no nutritional value. And, most people walk around dehydrated on a daily basis, so drinking your water will make you look and feel better. Your body will function better too!
4. Plan your dinner
Have you ever made it through a full work day of making smart, healthy food choices only to get home and completely ruin it with a terrible dinner? It’s so easy to do when you fail to plan. It will serve your healthy eating habits well if you plan what you’re going to eat for dinner for the entire week. You don’t have to cook it in advance, but having all of the necessary ingredients on hand is imperative to your success. No one wants to be forced make a run to the grocery store after a long day of work, especially when you weren’t planning the trip. This makes it that much easier to make a bad choice at dinner time.
5. Cut up fruits and veggies
Late night snacking can do a healthy eating lifestyle in. Reaching for cookies, crackers and chips right before bed just doesn’t work. To save yourself the temptation, wash and cut up fruits and vegetables so you can easily grab a nutritious evening snack. The front end work pays off, believe me!
